In a discussion in the Senate, a controversy arose related to the fight against nepotism in the Morena party. During the debate on an electoral reform, lawmakers from the Morena bench consented to nepotism until the year 2030, despite claims of combating it. This decision received criticism suggesting the existence of a "power mafia" within Morena.

The proposed electoral reform sought to prohibit reelection at all levels of government and at the legislative level, as well as to prevent relatives of those who have recently held a political office from being candidates. However, the reserved negotiated with the senator from the Green Party, Manuel Velasco, would allow Senator Ruth González Silva to succeed her husband Ricardo Gallardo in the San Luis Potosí government.

Amid the discussions, direct accusations were launched between lawmakers. Marko Cortés from the PAN questioned the decision to postpone the prohibition of nepotism until 2030, hinting at unclear commitments with political allies. On the other hand, Adán Augusto López, coordinator of Morena, emphasized that the reservation was agreed upon with various political forces and was not about political favors.

The discussion escalated with confrontations between parliamentarians from different parties. Some opposition deputies launched criticisms about instances of nepotism in Morena and other parties, calling into question the transparency and ethics in politics. Likewise, situations were highlighted where party loyalty seemed to prevail over the principles of the proposed reforms.

The debates in the Senate revealed internal tensions and differences of opinion, as well as accusations about political favors and snubs to the proposals of the President of the Senate. The discussion on combating nepotism in Morena gained relevance amid the controversy generated by the negotiated reservation that raised doubts about the coherence of the party's actions regarding its declared principles.
